Installation overview

Choose a deployment path and prepare a Netstamp installation.

The supported self-hosted path runs the Netstamp controller and TimescaleDB-backed PostgreSQL with Docker Compose. The controller image includes the web application, API, database migrations, and Linux probe install assets.

Before you begin

Prepare:

  • A Linux host with Docker Engine and Docker Compose v2.
  • Persistent storage for PostgreSQL.
  • A public hostname and reverse proxy if users or probes connect over the internet.
  • A backup destination outside the Docker host.
  • Outbound access for external authentication, SMTP, and notification providers you plan to use.

For a local evaluation, Docker and Compose are enough.

Installation path

  1. Start the Docker Compose stack.
  2. Review deployment configuration and replace every required secret.
  3. Publish the controller behind HTTPS.
  4. Configure external authentication and email if needed.
  5. Establish a tested backup and restore procedure.
  6. Follow the Quick Start to create the first check.

Deployment boundary

The standard Compose file provides the application and database. It intentionally does not include a public reverse proxy, TLS automation, or off-host backups. Integrate those responsibilities with your existing infrastructure.

Probes make outbound requests to the controller and do not require inbound controller access. Install them only after the controller’s final public URL and TLS certificate are working.
